Announcement: Cody Sisco Promoted to Acquisitions Editor, RIZE Press

Running Wild Publishing is thrilled to announce that it has promoted Cody Sisco, from editor to Acquisitions Editor, at its RIZE Press imprint as of January 1, 2023.  Cody has been working with Running Wild since 2021, editing titles such as And the Train Key Moving by Michael Kiggins, Waiting for Beirut by Rebecca Dimyan, and Wolf-Boy by David Fitzpatrick.  While he will continue to share his talents and advice at Running Wild Press, his focus and dedication will be on acquiring titles for RIZE Press, cultivating underrepresented writers who have great stories to tell, nurturing and growing the RIZE Press imprint.

As Acquisitions Editor, Cody will continue to expand RIZE’s mission to publish books by people of color as well as writers from historically excluded groups.   The role will be, according to Cody, “a continuation of my work to amplify the voices of writers that have been excluded from the publishing industry by championing our authors and creating a welcoming and supportive literary home for them and their work.”  All will reap the benefits of his years of experience.

As a writer, editor, publisher, and literary events organizer, Cody has worked with many writers with deep roots in historically excluded communities.  BookSwell, Cody’s literary media and events company, is producing the WeHo Reads literary series presented by the City of West Hollywood, which features Black and Native American writers, LGBTQ+ identifying writers, and writers of color.  In addition, BookSwell literary events have raised money for a range of causes, including Black Lives Matter LA, AIDS Walk LA and Stop AAPI Hate.  He co-edits and publishes the Made in L.A. fiction anthology series, which dedicated to nurturing and promoting indie fiction that highlights the diverse tapestry of stories taking place in Southern California.  Sisco also serves as co-executive for the Editorial Freelancers Association and has championed equity, diversity, and inclusion at the association.

We are equally excited about our new and upcoming 2023 releases from RIZE, including The Valley of Sage and Juniper by Shay Galloway (released March 21), A Purpose to Our Savagery by Tomas Hulick Baiza (release date: July 21, 2023), and Death Tango by LACHI (release date: October 1, 2023).  And as the year progresses, we look forward to adding more fascinating and powerful stories to our RIZE and Running Wild catalogs (https://bookshop.org/shop/runningwildpress)!

Congratulations, Cody!
